I was going to do what expeditionnutt did - a new HU, but I don't want to replace my 6 CD changer and lose my steering wheel controls. Have been told that no one makes a steering wheel adapter for my 05 F250 (yet - only go thru 03).

So that leaves me with an XM separate unit, but I don't want to use an FM modulator because I travel a lot. So what is there that offers a direct wire into the 05 HU? Does this then take the signal as digital? Or is it more of a direct analog wiring into the head unit?

I believe this same adapter will work for XM and Sirius units. The one that I ordered (Part #14110, just look for a FM modulator relay) Goes in series with the truck stock ant. You unplug the factory ant out from the stock deck, plug the relay with the ant end. Then you plug your stock ant into the ant input on the relay. Then you plug a third lead into the back of your XM or sirius unit into the FM out openning. This will send the signal right into your stock deck and not thru a FM station. When your XM or Sirius unit is not turned on then you will have your stock ant back, when the unit is turn on it will cut out the ant and go to the sat ant instead. I haven't done this yet as I have not had time but I will throw some picks up when I do. I paid $30 CND but I think if your in the US it will be like 20 bucks. I ordered mine from the sirius store, but you guys might be able to get them at best buy or something.

P.S. Oh ya and don't worry about any adapters for the ant as the ford ones are the right size to start off with.

thanks newtuner

One other question - since the unit is "hardwired" into the antenna, is that an analog signal as opposed to a digital signal that would be coming from, say, a USB port or some other direct digital wiring. I noticed that some of the new aftermarket HU's have USB ports (JVC has them in the front).

I don't know if it would be called a "digital" signal or not. Would any brodcasted signal be digital? Weather it be regular radio or sat radio? All I know is that the signal will not have any interference between the sat ant and your speakers. Either way it's better then the FM stations. I hope this anwsered your question, if not maybe somebody else might be able to.

I don't think that is correct. I found a converter that allowed the steering wheel controls on my 2004 Excursion to work a Pioneer head unit when I replaced my 6C.

Older Sirius

I've had a JVC plug&play unit in my Caravan for a year and a half. It's huge, but I can actually read the display without my glasses! I use the built-in FM modulator. Driving from my home near San Diego to Phoenix I had to change the FM reception frequency twice...once going and once coming due to an interfering OTA station in Yuma. Going up north of Sacramento two weeks ago, I changed freqs twice due to spill. This is not an issue. Hard wired? HU? I can take it in and plug it into the home base and listen to the home town radio coverage of Redskins games (go 'Skins) during the season. I just have to pause my tv so the Satellite catches up with the action.

My wife has a Starmate Replay in her den. Loves it. Although it's hardwired into the stereo system there, it broadcasts to the clock radio that wakes me in the morning. FWIW, having Raw Dog, Blue Collar Comedy, Outlaw Country, Jimmy Buffett and the R&R that I grew up on...50's, 60's, 70's, 80's. And the ONLY commercials are on the talk-oriented channels, never with music.

Any way you hook it up...satellite radio is THE way to go. And I get to pull the Sirius, the faceplate of my stereo, set the alarm on my vehicle and walk away happy.

I have mounted xm in my two Ford trucks and love it. However I recently bought a Lincoln LSE which came from the factory Sirius Satellite ready. I would appreciate any information regarding the conversion of this Sirius system to XM. I understand there is a converter box and am wondering if anybody out there has done the coversion or had it done at a shop.

Ready or installed?

Ernie, did the radio come with an actual Sirius installed? You used the term "Sirius Ready" and that usually means that you have to plug in a specific converter to make it work with satellite. If that's the case, you may just buy an XM converter for your radio and plug it in to the appropriate jack.

If, however, your radio already has Sirius "in" it. I don't have any suggestions. I am sure if you do a Google search on the topic you'll find something.

Check this thread at another location:

It's F150 directed, but may apply in your case. Just buy a P&P XM unit and FM modulate it into your radio.

John - I have used the aftermarket versions of xm and modulated them into my Expy and pickup, but this is on a Lincoln LSE and it appears there is no satellite radio in it. When the button for SAT is pushed on the dash, the message that appears is "No Sat". So i am guess that i should be able to purchase the xm cable system and am not even sure if i need the converter. I believe this is a fairly new product that XM is selling just not sure what it entails as far as an install. Would love to do this myself because as we both know, some radio shop will want my left lung for labor on this.

John, thanks for the info. Gonna go check out that site now. Want to get this thing up and running. After listening to XM, I really cant stand to listen to regular FM/AM anymore.
