Need Help with Ford Part Number interchange

Hello everyone. I don't post much but I do read and search the posts to learn more about keeping my '65 F100 running.

Right now I'm trying to understand the mysteries of interchanging the old Ford part numbers for something I can order and use now. It seems the local parts houses have given up on this and are no help.

A farmer friend took a look and was sure that the worm shaft bearing was Eggs-Zackly the same as the one he used for the box in his small John Deere tractor. The bearing does look identical but I'm not certain about the race (cup).

*** John Deere bearing #ch11171 (on box); NSK# VTAA19Z-4 (on race)

Steering Gear Input Shaft Bearing Cup C2AZ-3552-A is the part I need. (Thank you NumberDummy)

I downloaded a Timken catalogue and feel sure that the Timken 8537 is the same as Ford C2AZ-3571-A (use with steering gear ID number HCD-B). I found what looks like the right bearing on-line but there are new and different numbers to deal with.

*** Part No: 5666683/93 Manual Steering Bearing 8537

*** SIZES: ID: 0.750 x OD: 1.50 x W: 0.42mm

This part is a 2 piece set but the dimensions seem to be for the bearing. Do they really mix inches and mm now???

To make things more interesting here are two more numbers I ran across:

*** bca 8537

*** amc j3200492

This bearing seems to be used in a number of applications. With all this information you would think a parts counter with reference catalogs could come up with something.

Any help connecting a Ford Part # to any of these numbers would be much appreciated.

I'm not a parts guru or expert; but also I'm not exactly sure of what you calling a steering bearing; is it located within the steering box or connects the box to the steering shaft. Aka "Rag joint"!

Inside the box the worm shaft rides on two bearings. The Rag Joint is holding up OK!

C2AZ3552A .. Steering Shaft Bearing Cup / Bearing Industry Number: 8537

At the end of the text section of the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is a 188 page Ford to Manufacturer & Manufacturer to Ford part number cross reference list.

But, not everything is listed...example:

C2AZ3571A .. Steering Shaft Bearing. There is no Bearing Industry Number listed / 8537 is the number for the cup ONLY!

These two parts were also used on myriad 1958/72 Passenger Cars.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
C2AZ3552A = How many would you like?

RAY MOTOR CO. in Hillsborough NC has 2 = 919-732-8118.

TISON MOTOR SALES in Estill SC has 6 = 803-625-2551.

HASELDEN BROTHERS in Hemingway SC has 7 = 843-558-2134.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 33 = 800-543-4959.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 50 = 888-727-0418.

Wow, that is some pretty involved research. I usually head over to the parts house, buy a handful of items and return the one's that didn't work....

The BCA number SHOULD be able to be cross referenced by local parts stores...all bearings have numbers stamped on them which I believe are trade numbers from the brg mfr as any given brg could fit lots of different makes as well...wheel bearings are a pretty good example of this.

All bearings have numbers stamped on them which I believe are trade numbers.
Trade numbers are refered to in the autobiz as: Bearing Industry (part) Numbers, used by autoparts stores.

But some bearings (like C2AZ3571A) are not marked.

In this case, C2AZ3571A is the bearing, while C2AZ3552A is its corresponding cup (race).

The bearing for the tractor looks identical to the good one from the steering box. I am curious about the tractor race and wonder if DIFFERENT SIZE races would be used for the SAME bearings in similar applications.

Ford and Deere might have their own part numbers, but would the races actually have different dimensions to work with the same bearing.

If all you need is the C2AZ3552A Steering Shaft Bearing Cup, I found 98 of them NOS.

See post #4 for the myriad sources.
