Instead of taking the Bronco off the road. I want to build up another
dana 44 housing with new bearings, and 4:11 gears then just swap it out with the housing in my 94. My question is are all dana 44 housings from 80-96 the same, or do I need to look for a particular housing for my 94.
Thanks for the help.
Kenny
According to Bronco Grave yard they're the same. They list 80-96 Complete D44 IFS Center Section, 4.10 Ratio Open Diff under the the same part number: Item # 32002B - Rebuilt
The housing itself didn't change at all to my knowledge. Somewhere around 1993 the stub axles supposedly gained a C-clip to keep 'em in the diff. housing but I can neither confirm nor deny that YET. Would seem to me that adding a C-clip would make removing it pretty tricky since the "inspection cover" for the TTB IS the driver's side of the axle housing. The boys at two or three gear retailers asked me whether it was pre or post 93 when I went shopping for gears so I assume there is some credibility to the issue. You will need to swap carriers if you are going from a ratio under 3.93 up to the 4.11's. (i.e. stock 3.55's up to 4.11's will require swapping carriers).
