I'm working on a 1998 Ranger 4x4. when i was removing the front hub assembly i broke one of the nylon axle retaining clips, that keeps the axle in place. Does anyone know the part number for this part or where i might be able to locate one. The local ford dealer said the part number wasn't listed, and the junk yard said they sold it with the axle. Any help would be great .
I'm not that familiar with the '98+ front 4X4 axle, but I'll give this a try. Is it part #4 on the below diagram?
If so it's sold (from Ford) as part of the inner axle shaft assembly, which cost $100-$200 new, depending on the side. You probably don't want to buy an entire axle, do you? Call around to all your local salvage yards. Maybe one will have an axle that has been mangled in an accident and they might part out.
hey thanks for the help, i just went to the parts and got some snap rings that would fit the slot in the axle, i put 3 on and it was the same thickness of the nylon clip. I cant see where it will hurt anything as there was no wear on the nylon clip... Thanks for the diagram though.
