Front axle U-joint retainer mystery

Can someone give me a good part number for a front drive shaft U-joint retainers? Is there more than one possible part number?

I'm having a hard time replacing some lost ones; going in to an autoparts place and asking for them for my vehicle gets me Dorman P/N 81004, which fits over the U-joint cap, but not into my yoke on the axle.

I measured the caps that go into the yoke at ~1.062, which should be a 1310 U-joint but having bought several sets of retainers, they just aren't fitting into the yoke.

The U-joint caps fit snugly into the yoke, so I dont think it's stretched or worn.

It's been years and several moves since I removed them, so I lost the retainers I had. A part number listed on one of the caps says "Spicer P621," if that helps at all.

Here is something to get the ball rolling, I am sure mike o0o0o0 or ND wil be along shortly with a actual part# and location of who has them.

Also the year, make and model would help. If you have absolute NO luck I have a # of them in my spare parts boxes.

PM me if you can not locate new and want used, but usable.

Rich, OP's "About Me" profile sez: 1979 Bronco. So = 1978/79 F150 4WD & Bronco:

OP: You're asking for the U-shaped retainers (basic part number 4529 in Rich's pics) for the u-joint cups, correct?

If so, there are two possible retainers for two possible cups sizes. One cup is 1 1/8" (D3AZ-4529-C) .. the other cup is 1 1/16" (D8UZ-4529-A).

So, 1+1/16 = 1.0625", I'd say OP needs the (D8UZ-4529-A)

On my '78 F250 with the Dana 44, they don't use a U-bolt. It uses a strap with 12 point bolts to hold the joint.

I could have sworn I had the vehicle info in my signature, but I guess that's a different forum and I haven't been keeping up.

I have the correct part now.

Dorman's vehicle info wasn't giving the right information and I needed the smaller size regardless of what they were suggesting.

It is, in fact, a 79 Bronco.
