i needed a U joint for rear drive shaft. back one was bad so went to auto parts store got one for the rear and thought as long as i got the drive shaft out replace the front also so got two U joints the gave me two each one had a different part number ??? i had a 86 ford f150 4x4 and they were the same U joint part number so ok thought being i have a 87 f150 4x4 now it might be two different ones also needed a u joint for front right outer U joint also and got one for that. well dropped the drive shaft pounded the rear one off and got the new one on with out much of a problem .well this is going pretty good. so lets do the front one i looked at the front rear U joint hummm has 2 out side retaining clips and 2 in side C clips???? i looked at the old one and the new one same withe messured one of the bearring cups ok same size i'll just ues the extra outside clips .so beat out the front one it went well so i went to put the new one in what the hell. it uses two diffrent size bearring size cups GRRRRRRRRRRRR had to put the old one back in. auto store 18 miles away this is the only thing i have to drive. just moved to new town don't know any one for help thats why i needed to put it back in grease seals all tore up from pounding them out. so great need to go back to auto store to get another one. scared to death to see if i hace the right one front axle. sorry about long post but are they diffrient u joints for fronr and reat?? just got a new LMC truck catalog in the mail they don't even show U joints or axles any more. so ever run into this?? all this is for my truck in sig.

Not all U-Joints are the same and just because 1986 uses certain ones, that does not mean that 1987 or 1985 or whatever uses the same.

The following U-Joints fit ALL 1987 F150 4WD's regardless of the engine size, transmission type, wheelbase, axle weight capacity....yadda yadda yadda.

C3AZ4635L .. U-Joint-1330 size-Rear
Your local autoparts store should be able to cross these Ford part numbers over to the brands they sell.
While these numbers I typed are what the 1980/89 Ford light truck parts catalog calls for, that doesn't mean that's what's there now.
How many repairs, how many mods, how many owners has your truck had in 22 years?
thanks a ton for that info. that front one i got sold was about . i will take the numbers with me when i go back. what bugs me most need to replace second time. i'm getting to old do do this twice in two days
