Rubiranch,I run the Petronix in My 71-300 six,72 390 and My 73 390 and have never had any problems .I have been using Petronix since 1998.
"bowties in the rearview mirror"
Yes i'm happy that I no longer run them after 2 failures, even a friend with his 57 Olds had a failure, they were the early production units. Only Crane XR 3000's under our hoods.

Yup, and has a shutter for the infrared light vs magnetic that can get false magnetic signals. I'll take a shutter that's 3 times larger than a cam lobe peak for a ignition signal. Like a comparison between FE rockers held against the stands by springs or solid aluminum spacers, I know what i would use.

Looks like both would be a good choice. I do like the Pertronix not having a "box" to mount outside of the distributor although I do understand the advantages of light vs magnetic pulse as far as accuracy goes.
Anything electronic is better than points. My biggest concern would be dependability because we are going to use the truck just for towing our travel trailer.
