A. Brake On/Off (BOO) Switch
1. If vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission (7003), test clutch position switch before proceeding with this test.
2. Disconnect 6-wire connector at amplifier.
3. Measure voltage at wiring terminal 6 (R/LG) with brake pedal (2455) pressed. Meter should read battery voltage. If battery voltage is not measured, repair wiring between switch and amplifier.
B. A5 CHECK SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR CABLE
l Check speed control actuator cable adjustment.
l Check that speed control actuator cable is connected at engine and speed control servo ends.
l Is speed control actuator cable connected?
Yes
GO to «A6».
No
ADJUST, CONNECT or REPLACE as required, as described in Removal and Installation, «Speed Control Servo and Speed Control Actuator» in this section.
C. A6 CHECK SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR CABLE OPERATION
l Check the speed control actuator cable for proper operation.
l Is speed control actuator cable operating properly?
Yes
GO to «A7».
No
CLEAN, SERVICE or REPLACE as described in Removal and Installation, «Speed Control Servo and Speed Control Actuator» in this section.
D. CHECK VACUUM
l Check vacuum supply to speed control servo.
Note: 2.5 inches of Hg (1.22 psi) is minimum vacuum for normal speed control servo operation.
l Is vacuum supply OK?
Yes
GO to «A9».
No
GO to «A8»
E. PINPOINT TEST A: SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE
A8 CHECK VACUUM DUMP VALVE
l Test vacuum dump valve. Refer to «Component Tests» in this section.
l Is vacuum dump valve OK?
Yes
SERVICE or REPLACE vacuum hose as required, as described in this section. GO to «A9».
No
REPLACE dump valve.
Vacuum Dump Valve
1. Disconnect vacuum hose from switch.
2. Apply a vacuum to vacuum chamber using a hand operated pump. If chamber does not hold vacuum, replace speed control dump valve (9C727).
3. Press brake pedal. If vacuum does not exhaust from chamber, replace speed control dump valve.
F. Control Switches
1. Disconnect 6-pin connector at amplifier.
2. Connect multimeter positive lead to Circuit 151 (LB/BK) at amplifier connector.
3. Connect the negative lead to amplifier ground.
4. Observe the resistance reading while turning the steering wheel (3600) 1/4 turn left and right and depressing the speed control actuator switches indicated in the following chart.
If resistance measurements are within specifications, switches and wiring are serviceable. If resistance readings are not within specifications, proceed to Step 5.

8. Disconnect speed control switch harness at air bag sliding contact (14A664).
9. Repeat resistance checks listed in Step 4 at switch harness connector.
If resistance checks are within specifications, replace air bag sliding contact or repair wiring between air bag sliding contact and steering column connector.
If resistance checks are not within specifications, replace steering wheel harness or speed control switches.
Servo, Electrical Check
1. Disconnect the 8-pin connector at the speed control servo (9C735).
2. Measure the resistance in the circuits listed in the following chart.
If resistance readings are not as shown in chart, replace speed control servo. If readings are within specifications, proceed to Step 3.

3. Connect wiring at speed control servo and disconnect 8-pin wiring connector at amplifier.
4. Measure the resistances in the circuits listed in Step 2 chart.
If resistance readings are not as shown in chart, repair wiring between amplifier and speed control servo. If readings are within specifications, speed control servo and wiring are serviceable.
Servo, Functional Check
1. Disconnect wiring at speed control servo.
2. Start engine (6007).
3. Connect Circuit 144 (O/Y) lead of speed control servo to battery positive terminal.
4. Connect Circuit 146 (W/PK) lead of speed control servo to ground.
5. Momentarily touch Circuit 145 (GY/BK) lead of servo to ground.
6. Disconnect Circuit 146 (W/PK) from ground.
7. Servo throttle actuator arm should pull in and the engine speed should increase when Circuit 145 (GY/BK) is connected to ground. Speed control servo should release when Circuit 146 (W/PK) is disconnected from ground.

G. PERFORM SPEED CONTROL AMPLIFIER TEST
l Substitute known good speed control amplifier.
l Is concern corrected?
Yes
INSTALL a new amplifier as described in Removal and Installation, «Speed Control Amplifier» in this section.
No
EXAMINE all connectors carefully for proper contact. REPAIR as required. REMOVE substitute speed control amplifier.
