Has anybody used an add on cruise control like the one found in JCWhitney? It is a little square that is velcroed onto the dash and splices into the wires for I am assuming the VSS? Does it work good, worth the money and time?
Those units it seems are only as good as it's installed. Everybody I know that's installed one it's worked good when installed correctly. In my situation i'm trying to decide to go with the $100 audiovox unit or the $300 factory unit for the 06 Ranger. And yes you can use the VSS or a magnet pickup (optional and cost more) depending on what you have.
On the 95's the wiring is all there. all you need to do is find a good salvage yard that does not have a big jar of vasoline on the counter, and get the vacuum pot(there is holes under the hood to bolt it on) with cable ( will slip right into the notch on the the throttle quadrent at the intake, its already set up to take the cruise cable), get the steering wheel and the plugs should be already under your base model steering wheel and whaalaa, your cruisin'. I did a 95 jeep cherokee for under 30 bucks with factory parts from a salvage yard.
The Ford truck and the Cavalier will work extremely well with the Vacuum servo cruise.
The Electric servo cruise is more expensive and smaller in size. Performance-wise, thet are equal and extremely smooth and accurate.
