Cool throttle response lag

I was told by my dealer(???) that the throttle lag on my 05 5.4 is normal. His excuse was that I was proably used to older cable driven trottle and not the new gas by wire. He said that They have been getting a lot of complaints about it so it must be normal. I tired of this kindof BULL**** answer from the dealer.
HAs anybody gotten rid of the lag by having a decent dealer reflashing to PCM?

My 06 5.4 has no throttle lag. Ford must have gotten it right in 06.

Thumbs down

The throttle lag on my 04 is killing me. I already had it flashed once, and it did get better, but its still not great. Now the stealer is telling me the next reflash I will have to pay for since its after the first 12 months. Why would I have to pay for Fords crappy throttle set up? I just drive it as is and feel my blood pressure going up at every stop sign. But it will be a cold day in Hell before I pay ford to fix their own design problems.

My '06 was the same way, its not so much the throttle lag as it is the transmission shift lag. If you step on the gas, it takes a sec or two before it will downshift. Easiest way to solve it, it is to get a programmer. It was my first mod. I got the edge evo after two weeks b/c i coulndt stand the lack of accelation when you need it, like merging. My last car was mustang with 4.10 gears which obviously had no problems merging.

Have you noticed any improvements in fuel economy using the edge?

Id say a its a slight improvement. Its stil pretty new to me, so I have to try to stay off the gas cuz its take off like a truck should now when you punch it. I have only run mine on level 2, most people see the best fuel economy on level 3 with 91+ octance with the advanced timing. Id say I might have gotten +1 mpg on level 2. Gas mileage has too many variables to quote you any expections. Dont expect much, but you may see a little. Just the increased driveablity of the truck is well worth the cost of a programmer.

I did the PCM reflash as well but it still didn't do much to improve the lag. If you really want to get rid of it there are a couple of options available to you if you're willing to spend a little money:

- Get an air intake to replace the factory one. When I replaced mine I noticed better response as the truck was able to get air faster and breathe better.

- Get a tuner. This is the real way to go plus you get the added benefit of the increased performance and power. From my experience I think the Edge Evolution performs better than the Diablo Predator in the throttle response category. Just touching the accelerator results in an instant response. To some degree you need to learn to drive your truck again.

I don't mean to turn this thread into a tuner discussion...a quick search on this forum will give you all the info you want as there have already been a lot of length discussions. A good thread is the "Edge vs.".

I got my pcm re-flashed twice and not much better but the third time they replaced the throttle body position sensor as well as the re-flash and that did the trick.

I've had a new throttle position sensor installed and one reflash done on my 04. It still has a flat spot.
