My truck feels like I have the brake system off an old 50's boosterless pickup. There's a hissing coming from under the dash, or so it sounds. Anyone have ideas? Ever had this problem?
Just a thought, I don't knokw what you've checked, but I have seen the grommet on the vac line input into the booster split, which will make that hiss sound very close to the dash, and will take away from the capability of the brakes.
there is a vacuum dump valve connected to the brake pedal, it has either lost its hold of the vacuum line, which by the way connects directly into the main brake booster line or the valve has seen better days..... clamp it off under the hood and see if you have brakes again and the hissing under the dast has ceased.... if the valve is N/S it can be removed from service as it only affects the quick release of the Cruise control
I would first check the check valve on the booster. Pop it off the booster and blow into both ends. If you can blow into it and it comes out the other end on both sides its defective.
Another possible problem is if the diaphram in the booster itself is busted. That will hiss as a result of the vacuum for boost pulling air through the diaphram. Basic answer is find the source of the hissing and you'll probably find your problem.
