Hi guys,I just pickup a 1993 F1504x4 with 100,000 miles with a automatic trans. with OD. I have push buttons 4x4 and low range. My differential is a 3.55 Non Limited Slip. Haynes says there are 7 choices of differential to choose from. My axles look like #4 pictured below. Which one do I have?
Ford 8.8 and 9.0
Ford 10.25
Dana 44 front axle
Dana 60 front axle
Dana 60, 60.5, 61-1, 61-2
62, Dana 70
and Dana 70 HD.
Haynes also list these transfer cases listed below to choose from. My transfer case looks mostly like the BW13-45 and the 13-56, pictured in Haynes. Which one do you guys think I have?
New Process 2 speed part time
Warner 13-45 full time
Borg Warner 13-56 elec. shift
Your rear axle should be an 8.8" which is photo 3, the transfer case a Borg-Warner 13-56, and the front a Dana 44 which will have the same bolt pattern as photo 5 from the same BadShoe Productions rear end ID page you are looking at.

Thanks, the rear axle looks mostly looks like # 4 pitured above, but not at all like piture #3. It has a stright line going up the center with a 2" wide bump on the lower right side alittle more than half way down the right side. The rear has the id tag on the same bolt. I'll try to get some numbers off it, its very hard to read. The front axle looks like a Dana 44 pitured on #5.
Photo #4 is the 7.5” rear was first put in the 78 Fairmont. It also has a ten bolt cover but measures about 9” from top to bottom bolt.
Which rear end should I have if its a 7.5"? I listed the 7 choices from Haynes see choices listed above. It doesn't have a drain plug like the front Dana 44 that i have. The tag is in the same place as shown the picture.
You are right IT looks just like the picture number 3. It was hard to tell with the rust on it. Do you were there might be a list for 1990's Ford F-150 axle id tag decoder? My axle code is S837B 3L55882M21.
Thanks
is picture #1 a ford-9, 10 bolt? looks like what i have on a 1967 F-100 2WD. mine has a 1 3/8" drain plug in the back. is there a lower place to drain the gear oil and replace it with 80-90W?
Photo 1 - The 9” rear ends have a removable “hog-head” center carrier and is about 10” from the bottom to the top stud. The 9” was introduced in 1957 and ran to mid 80's. Info. is from from http://www.badshoeproductions.com/rear.html
Front axle is a Dana 44 and the rear is a Ford 8.8 non limited slip. It's get 50 below in the winter. I don't haul much but will have a snow plow soon.
later,
Mike
My rear axle is a Ford 8.8", 3.55 with traction-lok. Does that mean is limited slip, both wheels spin. I spun the rear wheels and both wheels left a mark in dirt.
Do i need to add friction mod. to my axle when changing the fluids? The front is a dana 44 do i add friction mod. also?
