Hello,
I have an '86 <nobr style="color: darkgreen; font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; font-family: Arial Narrow;" id="itxt_nobr_0_0">F150</nobr>, with a V8 5.0L, EFI 302 Small Block.
My dad and I just got done with a complete rebuild, and we just put the engine into the truck.
We tried priming the oil pump, as it said in the manual. By turning the engine over without the spark plugs a couple times.. and we tried.. and we tried.. and we tried.
Now we've checked the oil level and are about at the max fill line.. yet we're not getting oil pressure.
Can somebody help us?? We need it!!
Help is appreciated..

That's not how you prime an engine.. that's a good way to damage it. To prime it remove the distributor and put a socket with an extension taped to it on the oil pump driveshaft and spin it counterclockwise with an electric drill until you get oil flooding the cylinder heads. It's a good idea to put #1 cylinder on TDC of the compression stroke before doing this so you have a reference to put the distributor back to.
ok.. well in the Haynes manual we were reading, thats how we were supposed to do it.. good news is we didnt do that much so we probably didnt damage anything.
awesome thanks! i was able to get the oil pump priming tool from autozone so im gonna head out there right now and try that. thanks for the help!!

Do not follow that manual, go by Conanski's advice. He knows of what he types. The guys in this section really know their stuff about these particular motors.
