Dual Exhaust System?

Dual Exhaust System?
I have a 1977 F150 w/ a 302 V8 and I want to install headers and a dual exhaust system. I do not need cats and my truck has the dual gas tank setup. I have a set of headers on the way, but does anyone know a good place to pick up a dual exhaust kit that will work with my dual gas tank system? I have heard people say I might need to modify my transmission x-over, is that correct? Thanks.

Besides, a custom job will let you pick where to run the exhaust: both out the back, behind each tire, both from behind the same tire, etc. I would recommend using 2" pipe. Also, don't forget to have a crossover pipe of some sort between the two exhausts to equalize the system. I did the same set-up on my dual-tank 302 (1987 version) and removed the cat and liked it with 2-1/4" pipes. I reinstalled a hi-flow cat and the truck ran a whole lot smoother. Funny thing is that I didn't even notice the slight roughness (that's how slight it was) until I put the cat back on. The little bit of obstruction caused by the cat produced enough back pressure (which was lost with the larger pipes) to smooth everything out. Since you won't be running a cat, the smaller diameter pipes should create the right amount of back pressure to keep your truck running smooth. If you want, get some 3" tips (18" long) to put on the ends to give your system that "big pipe" look. That's what I did and I really like it. Good luck.
