What's wrong with IFS? I know you don't get the same amount of wheel travel in extreme rock-crawling environments but that doesn't apply to me. I've never understood the reasons why IFS is inferior to a live axle with leaf springs. IFS surely does provide a smoother ride in every day driving situations.

Is it something to do with towing capacity?

Ok, and IFS are not "solid". Do they have, like, oatmeal or something holding them together?

I was looking for a little more explanation as to why the good oldies are better than the newer IFS. Are the CV joints prone to breakage?

Generally speaking, the solid front end will be much stronger than a GM IFS set-up. Outside of the stupid balljoints Ford uses, the front ends are solid so to speak. Less parts to replace, and more versatility in stock form.

IFS....SFA....IFS......SFA

Neither is inherently better over the over. SFA is simpler and cheaper to manufacture and repair. IFS allows for better road contact in virtually every situation. Either can be engineered to be more than strong enough -- look at Osh Kosh's big trucks, the H1, etc...

I personally like the coil over shock IFS set-up, but again, nothing more than a personal preference.

I heard from a buddy of mine, who is a Wisconsin State Trooper that the veins in the 6.4's turbos broke off and sent them flying through the engine???? I have no idea but I have heard from more then one person that the 6.4 was pushed back to 2009!!!!!!!! I don't think my 7.3 can last that long with the miles I am putting on it now. I was hoping to replace my 00' in 08' after the 6.4 has been out for a year to iron all the bugs out. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to keep hammerin' the 7.3L.

dON'T THROW THAT 7.3 AWAY. Just re-build it. No smog checks, no cat, burns bio or straight Dino fuel, good for at least 300,000 miles. Lots les than a new one from what ever brand. What more could you want.
