Driver Side Passenger Power Window Switch
The Driver Side Passenger Power Window Switch Does Not Work and I don't have a clue the best way to trouble shoot this one.
I could really use some detailed help on the best way to troubleshoot this one.
The double throw switches and the wiring diagram have me stumped.
Thanks in advance for the help.
What may have you stumped is the way they have the switches wired. If you notice, there is not ground or hot wire going to the motor. There are two leads to the motor, and the crazy wiring at the switches reverses the polarity of these motor wires, making the motor change directions.
Its the driver side switch for the passenger window.
I pulled the switch and check continuity across the leads.
There are 2 LED which I didn't bother to check.
Touching one probe to the _ terminal the polarity changes on the 2 other terminals when I press the switch. Whether I press the up or the down the polarity changes.
So I'm guessing the switch is doing its job.
A broken wire? How wouls I know for sure before I start chasing wires under the dash?
Thanks
Randy
Here's a diagram for a 96. If all the wire colors are the same as yours, we can assume it is the same. Look in the lower right corner of the diagram.

What I would do is pull out both switches, so you can get to the wiring. The "right" in the diagram is the passenger side. The little box down low is the passenger side switch, and the big box above that is the driver's side dual switch.
Once you have the wiring out where you can check it, I would put one of your meter leads on the driver's side door, and the other on the passenger side door, and check for continuity between the:
lightblue/black
white/yellow or yellow/black
tan/lightblue or red/black
If you study the diagram, we can make some assumptions. The lightblue/black is the hot wire that is feeding the passenger side switch. It must be ok, since the passenger side switch works. When you activate the driver's side switch for the passenger side, you should get voltage at the passenger side switch on the other two wires. Make sure you put your meter across both wires if you are going to check for voltage. The polarity will swap around, depending if you go up or down with the switch.
I hope your 97 wiring is the same as the 96.
