I have a manual too. Got my 2 guage pod from Summit Racing I think. It comes black. I have a grey interior and I used a med. gray vinal spray paint and it matched perfect. I forget the name of the paint. Dura-color maybe... I got it at walmart. VERY durable stuff actually. I was impressed.

I second the Autometer Phantom Guages. Very nice. I love them.

Where can I get details on how to remove my stock A Pillar on my 04 Excursion and install of a new 3 guage pod. Likewise for the Boost, Pyro and Tranny temp gauges.

Pull back weather stripping and give it a tug. As far as putting the pillar on your stock pillar, have a friend give you a hand, line the pod pillar up with the stock pillar, drill about 1/4" from the edge for you plugs that way your weather stripping covers the plugs. Then drill a 1" hole at the bottom of each pod for wiring and etc to fit through.

The dimmer wire is Light Blue with a Red Trace.

I just put AutoMeter Sport Comp II, brand new this year just released them, in my truck the other day. They are LED, not the bulb with the colored cover.

There are pics in my gallery...Go check it out! I will be taking some more on more of How I did that type of thing.

I presume the A Pillar grab handle has to come off before I can "give it a tug" ... pop the covers off and unscrew the grab handle?

What "plugs" you referring to?

Also, how involved is getting the sensors for the gauges installed and how good or not are the instructions? And are there any online that you can refer me to?

Yes, the handle has to come off first. My truck doesn't have one, but I would assume there's some bolts that are behind a couple of round or oval covers near the base of the handle.

The "plugs" are what you use to attach the gauge pod to your a-pillar. You should have gotten about 6 of them with the gauge pod. They will be about the size of a pencil eraser, have a textured face on the head to match the rest of the pod, and have a bunch of fins on them. You drill holes in both the pod and the pillar cover, and push the plugs through to hold the two together. Drill the holes with the pod held in place over the pillar cover so your holes will line up.

I didn't think the wiring was very hard to do, but I've done a lot of electrical work and wired up many different things in the past, so it's almost second nature to me. Depending on the gauges you got, some of the instructions are not that great. The ones that came with my Autometer guages were pretty generic, but that's all I needed. Boost, tap into the line that feeds your MAP sensor. Pyro, you can go either pre or post turbo. Most guys here go pre turbo. That will require to drill and tap one of the manifolds, usually the driver's side. Trans temp, on the drivers side of the transmission there is a threaded metal plug that you will remove to insert the sensor. It's just above the wide flat connector. Look in my Gauges gallery for pics of where the trans temp sensor goes. Also, be sure to use the forum's search function when looking for more info about the other gauges. I think you'll find it a valuable tool.

You might check both the Diesel Innovations and ITP websties for any install instructions. I'm not sure what either one has.

I have the autometer sport comps and like them fine. The ISS Pros are probably a little better gauge, they used to make Banks, Western Diesel's g other known brands but I'm not sure anymore. The sport comps fit my interior scheme better. And they look great. No problems in 5 yrs with them. There are good installation instructions as well as other info at dieselpage.com. Or do a google or other search for Diesel Injection Service. My friends and family have done business with them for over 20yrs. They know more about diesels than just about anyone. They sell quality products not just the the fad of the day. That's why they are still in business after 37 yrs.

Good Luck,

Austin

JT .. pardon me if I'm a little slow on the uptake here .. but I think I'm getting the gist .. for some reason I had the impression that the original equipment A Pillar come off completely and is replaced by the A Pillar gauge pod ...

From what you are describing it sounds like the handle comes off the orig equip A Pillar and the gauge pod fits over the existing A Pillar and serves as the foundation for mounting. In that context your description now makes sense.

Please confirm that I got it or don't ... Thanks

The A Pillar comes off completely. You probably will have to lose the handle if you have one since the gauge pod fits OVER the pillar.
This will show you that you need to drill holes in the A pillar to have the wires run thru it. The pic is kinda dark but if you can lighten it up a bit you will see the attachment holes for the handles that some of the wires are coming thru
