I bought a doner truck which is now going to be my project truck. The tranny is C6 but it stays in drive gears. when I start it lunges forward like it is in gear the motor is consently under load like it is in gear. when I put it into reverse it goes forward but stays is first. same with nuterual. then drive works fine far as shifting. It wont go into nuterual or reverse. any ideas on what it could be? I was told my bands are stuck togather. Is there anyway to free them if that is the case?
Have you checked where the rods attach to the shift arms at the side of the tranny? The rubber grommets on my old '70 were completely gone and allowed enough slop that it wouldn't go into park or reverse.
It goes into park The truck will stay stoped when I start it it just acts like your holding the brake when it is in park then when I pull it down it just goes forward
sounds like an internal problem. incorrect linkage wouldnt let it have the park pin engaged and still be in drive, i'd ask in the trannmission forum like petes79 suggested, they'll know more about your problem. sounds like you'll need to rebuild a tranny.

I know it's way late and all but, I'll bet money you have a car tranny in your truck. I did the same thing and pulled the sucker twice. Linkage inside is backwards and can be turned around.
it was working fine before it quit could it still be the linkage? at least thats what the guy told me doesnt really matter now i got the body off the frame and waiting to get the money for new body mounts so I can put my body of my other truck on the frame I mainly bought that truck because it has a good 400 and a straight frame my truck ans been totaled before and the motor is shot so for 200 buck got me a complete truck that runs and drives forward at least and a good front clip to go on my other one cant beat the deal. Thanks for the imput I decicded to put the 4 speed I got in it instead.
