I just bought a 80 f100 302 c4. When I put it into drive its like its in neutral. When manually put into first it goes into gear but wont move and the truck shakes like its falling apart. When put into second it will move about 20 feet before it gives out while shaking. Reverse is fine. Is the transmission bad or is this something that could be fixed?

 

Sounds like the tranny. Pull the pan on the tranny and see how much junk is in the pan.

 

The guy(my neighbor) I bought it from just changed the filter and refilled it. It had been sitting 3 years when he bought it three weeks ago. He said he drove it home after topping it off with fluid. Ive checked the fluid level and it is good. I may pull the pan just to see if he installed the filter correctly. What would cause it to shake like crazy in drive and not move but be smooth as silk in reverse?
