Hello All,
I am new to this forum. I have already found it enlightening. I have just recenly purchased a '99 Exped. I have seen a few posts on this forum about keys and security. Are the keys on my '99 Exped chipped? Am I able to just have a duplicate made as mine just came with one. Also is there a way to get a replacement keyless entry keychain module?
If you have your owner's manual I think the procedures for both programming a new remote and additional keys is explained in it. If not, one of us will have to look it up.
if your truck only came with 1 key as mine did also i had to take it to the dealer and have them program a new key cost me around $60 or so. that was the only way i found to do it.
Some locksmiths can program the second key. You can program the third yourself. You can program the remotes yourself. Keys and remotes are available on Ebay fairly cheap. That is where I got my extras.
I swear I just did my second and third key. Insert key 1, turn to run, wait for 'Theft' light to go out. Turn off first key and remove. Insert second key and turn to run, wait for 'Theft' light to go out. Turn off then to start position. Vehicle should start. you can do the same with the other keys.

So you didnt have to "Program" your key or pay an outrageous price?
it takes two programed keys for you to do it yourself if you only have one key you have to use a programer to do a seconed key also if your key is not covered in thick black plastic on the end then it is not a chipped key. i got extra keys from ebay also cheapest place to get them
I would say that you did the 3rd and 4th. Not being able to program a key with only 1 key is a security feature. It keeps Valets from making a key for your ride and getting it later.
My Brother-in-law valets at a building with a sign stating "complimentary valet". He says that if you don't slip your valet at least $2 when you get out, it's like telling him "find whatever you want and take it. It's 100% free and meant for you to have as my little way of thanking you for your hard work".
