ok i think i have heard of people modding the tps or accelerator pedal sensor as ford calls it, to increase the voltage(signal) at the high end of the pedal stroke. checked mine with the scanner and matted i only ahve 4.1 volt on a 5 volt system. so since the diagnostic stuff all says that 4.5 or above is acceptable at WOT then one would assume i am missing part of my high end acceleration/power right?
anybody done this mod and what outcome did you have??
tjbeggs .... I'm interested in hearing this too...
question ... did you take the reading with the truck running or just the ign turned on? You might get a higher reading with the truck running than off.
good point it was not running so once i get my fuel line thawed out that just left me stranded on the sie of the road and get it back to the shop tomorrow i will check it with is running and let you know what i find out.
there is a lil stopper at the top of the pedal, metal piece goes across the entire assembly. the actual pedal piece that moves the rheostat hits this and stops the travel, I took this out on mine and if I realy mash into the floor it will go past the old stop point.
I noticed no change, I had originaly done the reindexing mod for the rheostat, but I got a real touchy throttle again so I did this instead.
I would like to check mine as well. How is the best way to go about it? I assume it is best to check while running. Which wire is the one to check? I would assume that you would take a voltmeter and ground one terminal and put the other one on one of the wires. Correct?
I did end up with higher voltage. I think I found in the diagnostic material that anything over 4.7 volts will though a code so I got it around 4.5 volts. Stopper that it at the top of the pedal (its round with the end smashed over the hole to keep it in place) I took it out and replaced it with a bolt and nut that I ground a notch out of it to allow for the travel. I didn't notice really any difference. I haven't check this truck yet. When I did it it was my 95 that I was working on.
BBW definately get those pedal assemblies. Also contact that guy in the thread that Neal pointed out. If you get one from a 96-97 with the part number Jim listed I will buy on from you. I spent a few hours int he junk yard today also. Didn't come out with much, I got a accesory bracket with A/C compressor, vacum pump, and PS pump attached for $35. Not bad. Don't need it but you never know. Also got a base and cable for the antenna for my radio. Now I can tune in stations! and picked up a battery hold down. I went to find chevy pickup front caliper for my 4 wheel disc brake conversion coming up. Can you believe they had one truck there and the calipers were gone! They have been scraping alot of cars lately!
