I have read some posts about reseting the computer by disconnecting the batteries for about 10 min. What are the advantages of doing this? I have a Superchips programmer, so I know I would need to return to stock. My truck seems to be getting pretty "doggy" and wondering if this will have any effect?? I am also getting an exhaust backpressure code. Could this have an effect on the peppiness? Sometimes it will get up and go, and sometimes it will act like a dog! Thanks for your help!
grunt from kazoo this is tim from the silver lake sand dunes. resetting the computer resets the adaptive learning part of the computer. it then relearns a few parameters and some experience better throttle respond and better fuel economy. this may or may not be true but it also doesn't hurt anything other than having to reset you clock and radio. also i don't think you will need to return you tune to stock.
the exhaust code may if the valve is closing cause dogginess. what is the code number? try just disconnecting the ebpv connector at the base of the turbo and that will disable the valve to know if it is closing sometimes. the connector is right in the middle all the way to the bottom of the front side of the turbo pedestal. this will cause a code but not a CEL.

It isn't true on the 7.3L. That engine and trans do not have any adaptive learning. You would clear any codes, and some codes can limit how the engine operates.
casey i have seen a debate over that fact many times and as a mechanic I still am not sure which is true. i have heard of a number of people mainly in the thread about the blue cps. those that disconnect their battery when the swap the cps they experience mileage, sound, and performance change right away and those that left the batteries connected didn't see any changes for a few hundred miles.
i am not a computer programer so i am no expert. i do know that diconnecting batteries will not hurt any thing. it will clear codes. it will erase the memory in your radio. i know i have disconnected my batteries on my 95 and didn't find any change. the computer may be a different breed than most vehicle out there. actually it is.
so i will take your word for it cause i have no first hand proof either way!
it is very possible that the changes other have experienced are wishful thinking. i have done it myself. my truck is louder so i think it is fast or more powerful than another then after driving another i drive mine and realize my turck is only louder not faster!
