Speedometer Cable

Is there supposed to be a fitted end to the speedo cable. I disconnected mine when I took out the dash and noticed that the end is just wire. Now the speedo whips back and forth until about 25 when it smooths out. It may need some lube, but I thought there was supposed to be an end to the wire. Am I right?

The end of the original would just be wire, but it would be squared off. The replacement cables often have a crimp on end. It sounds like you are either missing the end, or perhaps your cable does need lube. Use lube intended for speedo cables otherwise you may run into problems.

It is squared off, so I assume its original. Is it hard to find speedo lube?
