I am attempting to replace my MLPS, which sounds like a straight forward thing even though I can't find anything about it in my Haynes manual. My problem is this: How in the world are you suppose to get the wires out of the old connector to wire in the new one without just smashing it to pieces? There is supposed to be some way to release the wires with a small screwdriver, which I have. However, I can not seem to get any of them to release. Any help is greatly appreciated as I need to have her running in time for work tomorrow.
the only thing i can think of is to use a micro (real tiny) flat blade screw driver. push in on the locking tab from connector side and gently pull the wire out at the same time. i used to work in electronics and this was allways a big pain and that was at a bench!
Thanks for the advice. I got the wires all out and the thing installed. Now the problem is that when starting it acts like it doesn't have enough power to turn the starter. If I hold the key to start it will turn over, pause, turn over, pause, etc. until it finally will turn over a few times and start. Does that sound like we somehow killed the battery while working on it or is something wired wrong? Thanks.
what happens if you jump start the truck? does it start normal?did you adjust the mlps to line up with the marks before you tightend it down?while working on the truck did you have the radio on and the doors open this would definately discharge the battery.
you do know that you are supposed to disconnect the negative side of the battery whenever you work on any thing electrical.this will prevent any chance of shorting the electrical system and frying expensive components. the mlps is connected to the computer.
glad you got the connecter changed, an old ford tech told me he just pushes the connecter up and leaves it on the harness and then just pushes thepins into the new conecter.
why did you replace the mlps and did it correct your problem?
I haven't tried jump starting it yet. The battery was disconnected while working. I replaced it for hard shifting, and it does seem better so far. I ran the truck for about 15 minutes and it is still starting hard.
Well, I jump started my truck and it starts right up. Sound like I somehow screwed up my battery? I don't understand how, but that seems like the logical assumption.
Replaced the battery and it starts better than ever now. Must have somehow fried the old one. Lesson learned. Now to pull the codes again and see why I still have a check engine light coming on after 10 min of driving.
The hard shifting does seem to have been cured so far. I got it at the Ford dealer. $106 after tax. I have heard most people say cheaper so yours may not be as much.
the MLPS is the manuel lever position sensor. it sends an electrical signal to the powertrain control module. if you have an E4OD trans it is electronically controlled and the computer controls the shifts with input from the MLPS and the throttle position sensor. oh not to make you seem stupid but the manuel lever is your shift lever.
