According to the Ford Sales Bulliten, the rear sway bar came as a OPTION on the Limited and Eddie Bauer models. You had to add the "4X4 trailer towing group" and this option had the sway bar. The towing group was not offered for the XLT. It was a extra towing package that added to the standard stock towing package.

I have the 4x4 towing package on a 2005 XLT...it was available.
I am now looking at some info on the 4x4 Trailre Towing Group. Listed as Power, heated, manually telescoping trailer tow mirrors with integrated turn signals and clearance lights. It was available on any level 4 wheel drive Excursion.

I had an open order and added it to it. I had a code but I dont remember. Maybe search the web for codes. Got the shocks (4 RSX), the sway bar, the T bars, and a 12vdc VCP all 10% off and free shipping. I'll look at the catalogs tonight and see if there's a good code.
I was still on the fence on this issue and finally decided to jump on board with the traction bars thanks to all the documentation here and not wanting to outlay the cash for the more expensive version. Wanted to let the group know if others are looking, I realized the free shipping is in a banner on the JCW site, click it to get the promo code for the order page.
According to their site today, the "Free shipping on orders $75 and up" will end in a week, March 16. Don't know if this comes back often or not there, but it's a good deal since the bars are $78.00 clearance, just over the free shipping cutoff. Just have to get the angle brackets and bolts and have another weekend project...plenty of those it seems.
It's apples and oranges. That gives me no stress. Both methods stabilize the rear axle. One triangulates the spring to itself and eliminates the front half, the other does it from the frame and leaves the leaf free. IMO bang for the buck the Helwig tops the list.
Now the blue CPS with a mild tune and the higher EGT's when momma drives and just watches the guage climb and tells me about it later (and didn't downshift), there's some stress.
