check engine light with egr disconnect

The check engine light came on after disconnecting the egr valve on my 06 PSD. After reconnecting, it is still on. Any way to get it off short of taking it to the dealer? Any harm done?

Disconnect battery and turn the lights on. This will drain all residual the power in the system. Leave it like this for about 10 minutes and reconnect. Your ECU will then be reset and the light should go away.

Thanks Mike. I did what you suggested and it worked fine. I have a lot to learn.

Hi all, Newbie here also. On my 06 I disconnected the EGR valve and got the CEL. I am leaving the EGR disconnected. I unhooked the batteries lights/key on for 10-15 minutes. The CEL went away, but came back after a few minutes driving. I did this twice with the same result waiting longer the second time. I thought maybe it did not clear. Any thoughts?

btw. I have a bullydog triple dog and outlook monitor on the way. I should be able to use that to read/clear the code. Right?

Thanks.
