In the interest of clarity, the service writer may not have been clear. Did he say "If we have to remove your transmission, you have to pay for the oil change, but if not, you don't?" or words to that effect? Too many times I have been to dealerships and been unpleasantly surprised at the cashier's desk with additional charges I did not authorize. Of course, if it wasn't written down on the service order not to charge for the oil change, it's the service writer's word against the customer's. And I believe that a dealership will not risk alienating a customer relationship over $50 in or less in wholesale value of parts and labor.
The service writer never said anything that specific. Just that if it turned out to be an oil and not a tranny leak, I wouldn't be charged for the oil change. I just latched on to that "not pay" part I guess. His explanation seemed reasonable at the time so I paid it. What I was not happy with was he couldn't tell me anything about the rear main failure and acted like he shouldn't have that information. He said the "diesel guys" just told him what was leaking and fixed it. I thought I was clear up front that I wanted to know the exact failure afterward. Whether it was a faulty seal or bad original installation. He is a new service writer and I willing to cut him some slack...but not that much. Since the repair, I found out a coworker has a good friend who is the top service writer at this dealership...any other work that needs to be done, will be through him. Otherwise the truck runs great...just like it did before I took it in...except now it doesn't leak!
I just dropped my 2005 Build II PSD 250 Lariat FX4 off this morning at the dealer to have two thngs done 1) be reflashed as per a Service Bulletin that came out a couple of weeks ago and to have the side cowl PSD emblems replaced (black paint chipped off). I just received a call from the Service Desk telling me that one of the injectors was not firing and that they would have to keep the truck for 2 days to replace the injector. The truck has 18,000 almost all freeway unloaded. It has been running like a champ and has been great to drive. My mileage, was until last trip, between 18-20 computed. Recently it has dropped to 16.5 and that is probably due to the injector. Anyone else have injector problems on their 2005 PSD?
