now i know it's possible to swap a 302 cam into a 351w and a 351w cam into a 302
now my question is are you able to swap a 390 cam into a 360 ?
i have 2 low milage '74 360's and want to build one up with a edelbrock performer rpm cam and performer intake
I purchased my 428 crank from DSC motorsports. They are on the web. Scat crankshafts also offers stroker kits. Going from a 390 to 410 saw a nice increase in torque.
Knowing that, if you're going to be in there anyway, why not put in a 390 crank and a set of 390 rods and have a 390 when you're done?
rusty just a thought here but would i not need to have the block bored or at the very least honned out to take the ring ridges out ??
aren't the 390 & 360 pistons different ??
the only reason i'd like a 410 is because it seems every one else has a 390.
just me wanting to be a little different ,if i can't find the parts to make a 410 whithin my reach then i'll have to go with a 390.
Yes, you would need to have to have the block bored over to remove the ridge. But on a good rebuild you'll be doing that anyway.
Later 360 pistons are the same as high compression 390 pistons. I had an old 360 with pistons that even said "390 4V" on them! The VERY early 360's had full skirt pistons that wouldn't clear the counterweights on 390 cranks. There's a 99% chance you dont have those. But since you're going to get it bored oversize anyway, you'll need new pistons anyway...
Really I've got nothing against a 410. Good torque bump over an already great 390. If you can find the appropriate crank and rods, then by all means DO IT!
i am under the impression that all i needed was 428 crank,390 rods, and 390 pistons?
in anycase i'll not be starting my rebuild until mid april or beginning of may so there is still time for me to figure out what exactly i'm going to create
