On the right side of the engine block near the starter. If the heads are not on the engine flip them over to read casting #'s or if the intake is off the engine you can use a mirror to read them.
You might have to remove the starter to read the casting number.
Once you have it, go here for info on how to decode it.
Unfortunately, the casting number doesn't give you the information on what the engine actually is, just the year and car line and casting revision. For that, you have to look elswhere. But there are some things to be aware of. The 302 came out in '68 so a casting number of C5AE would tell us it's a 289. C9 could be a 351W since they came out that year, and E5 would be a 5.0 (which is still a 302).
Most of us in here can tell what a Ford engine is just by looking at it, but here is the easiest way to tell a 302/5.0 from a 351W/5.8:
