302 engine identification

I have an engine that came out of a 1969 Bronco but was not the original engine. Block casting numbers behind the starter are giving me trouble trying to decode. Can anyone look at this photo of the block and give me any info on it? Mainly looking for the year, but also confirmation that it is a 302 and any other bits of info.
Thanks for the help!
This motor is going in a 1961 Econoline pickup after a freshening up.

Looks like a '78 block D VE and the date code 8B1 would also indicate 1978, Feb 1 as the casting date. As to confirming it is a 302, measure the intake surface width between the heads. 302 is narrower than 351W

The D*VE casting number signifies a '70's(D*) Lincoln Continenltal(V) production run, the blank in the year(second digit) adds some ambiguity but the date code helps sort tthat out. If this was an early '70's motor there is a good chance it would be a 429/460 big block but late '70's makes a small block more likley. The key to positively IDing these engines is visual, there are notable diferences in the cylinder heads and intake style and bolt pattern and the overall size of the engine, if you post a pic of the top of the engine it would be immediately obvious what engine you have.

Thanks for the info, the blank spot in the code was throwing me off.
This is definitely a small block.

Just curious, does the Econoline use the same water pump as the Bronco? If not, your coil may have to move elsewhere. On my F-150, the bracket that holds the alternator and air pump goes where the coil is, in your image, and the water pump is configured differently.

None of the early Econolines came with V8's so that shouldn't matter. When I got the pickup, it had a seized 1965 289 in it. Not remembering how the 289 was configured now, so I will have to see how it fits when I put this one in.

My point was that 289/302 engines from early Mustangs and Broncos have the lower rad hose on the passenger side (I can see the outlet just under/below the coil in the image you posted). The water pump for the F Series version of the 302 is on the driver's side. So, if the Econoline rad is oriented the same as the early Bronco, you're golden.

Hey all, leaning on you again.
So I'm kinda stuck and need your help. I'm back to work on my project rig and I need to replace the intake and distributor or at least the vacuum advance body. It's broke and somebody siliconed it. What I really need is one of you experts in Ford's to tell me what to tell the auto parts stores when I go in for parts. Caring is 70's era and if I go off the posts from others with that decide list, it's a 74 falcon. But if I type that in, they all tell me it's not compatible. I'm getting frustrated. I know the 302 is just a 302 as some like to say, but I'd rather look like a fool with you guys than saying "I don't know" every time I'm asked at the parts store, "what are you working on?" I've included pictures of what it currently looks like. All I need is someone to say.... Tell them it's this car, and you'll be good.
Thanks guys

Unless you are in Australia, there are no 1974 Falcon, parts store is correct.

That is a jeep, and you said in another post its a 302 from a 1974 Maverick.

What happens when you tell the part stores its a 1974 Maverick?

Get under the jeep, look behind the starter, that will show you the date code of the engine.

They tell me the same thing you just did lol. In the last photo, the engine code is shown. Comes up as a 1974 falcon. I'm totally lost in getting a solid answer to what it's from. One guy told me it had a truck oil pan. 😩

Oh, that picture from stangnet, probably incorrect.
Here, this should correct you and them:
D4 - 1974
D - Maverick
E- engine group
6015 engine group base assembly
BA - revision or engineering version

those casting number state it's a 1978
D = 1970's 8b1 1978 cast on feb 1st what's been bolted onto the outside is what was needed to install it into your truck
this one is a 1965 289 C5 was cast as the base casting number, 5j25 means it was cast in 1965 on sept 25th for a 1966 car
ford in in many cases stopped using the base casting year number going to the date code to help decode the year
month wise ford fails to use the letter i as it's to easy to mistake for a lower case L , so jan is the letter A feb letter B, sept becomes J since there is no letter eye or i
