Hi all. I have a 68 F250 the shifter is just dangling by a hair. I think I broke it when I was shifting a little too aggressive. Anyways, I was hoping you guys would know an easy fix? Maybe disassemble the steering? but I have no clue as to where to start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million

we need more info,,auto trans? manual trans? collum shifter? floor shifter? 3 on the tree? dahmer
Dahmer or anyone else replying to this post.....It's actually the shift collar that I need to replace (maybe) cause the shifter itself does not move the gears. Do I need to disassemble the steering components to get to this part?? Thanks for your response.
The best way to rebuild is to remove the column and disassemble on the work bench, it's easy to remove. Besides the shift tube, column and steering shaft everything should swop out with later columns. You should have a 4 bolt cover Bendix box if power steering. Manual and power steering in 68 had a longer column than 69 up with Ford power steering box as the Ford box is longer hence shorter column. Ford power has two bolt cover.

Beemer, Thanks for the input. I'm a little confused. To replace the shift collar, I have to remove the shaft? And is there a step by step process you can tell me to disassemble or atleast tell me where I can get a hold of one? Thanks for your reply
I have a automatic shift column which is different than a manual I believe as I haven't been inside a manual. This may help on how to get apart a auto trans column. Remove from the steering wheel down. First you'll need to remove the connector at the base of the column under the dash that's for the horn, blinker and trans reverse light. Make a note of wire color to connector location, slip a small metal tube like one from a pen to close the barbs to retract each male pin fron the connector. Remove turn signal lever then 3 screws that hold turn signal switch. When your down to the cast hub that sits on top of the column tube you'll see two small bolts, loosen them and the square nuts will release from slots in the column tube. There will be spring pressure pushing the cast housing up. Remove cast housing then shifter tube. As I stated before it's alot better to disassemble on the bench.
