Miss-matched Tire sizes

I just bought a '77 350 double knuckle bucket truck.
It has the 300ci in-line 6.
The front tires are, 8.25x16.5, and the back are, 9.50x16.5 .
Is this a normal thing for a truck like this?

The 9.5s have a higher capacity than the 8.25s, it used to be a really common thing to see a truck with larger tires in the rear for load capacity.

ok thanks, my '64 has all the same all the way around. didn't know if it might be a clearance thing. looks like plenty of room in there. going to go with the 9.50's all the way around

The load capacities on the 8.00x16.5s were the same as the 9.50x16.5s it all depends on if you ask for 8ply or 10 ply tires. They probably changed to rear 9.50s to bring down the engine rpms. The old 78/79 uhaul trucks all had 8.00 on them and they were considered 2.5ton trucks.
