I know I've heard that a 16.5" rim has problems I just can't remember what they are. I need a 10" wide rim and are easily finding 16.5" but no luck in anything else for cheap anyways. I found a good deal on a 16.5" set of normal white wheels. I'm going to run 39 x 12.50 x 16.5 iroks so tire options aren't an issue. Thanks ahead of time.
no inner bead, and when you air them down, they come unbeaded easier. stick with 16,s i am replacing my 16.5,s after christmas, due to the fact you can not find them readily available, when you do they are pricey....
Like said above . I also got rid off 16.5 on plow truck tires are just to $$$ But if you have Tire get some rims anyway I guess but its limited to basically a used item . I have not seen any advertised in at least 10 years . I was looking for extras .
i run 16.5 inch rims cause there is a much larger selection of tire available in that size. and i have never once in 35 years of driving on them had a tire go flat because of "bad beads".
i had the rims on my dodge scrape the asphalt during a 60+mph hard turn, and the tire did not pop the bead.
the rims just dont pop off going down the hiway... they pop off when you air them down for more traction, while you are wheeling, or stuck or something. this is a commom thing for four wheeling. going down the hiway there is enough air to not allow this. with the tire he is going to run, they are made for wheeling, they can go down the hiway, but they wear quickly. so that is why he was concerned about problems. as a matter of fact the us army uses 16.5,s on there humvees. you can buy them on ebay for cheap. but only if you want to run a 37 or 38 inch tire..the 37s are bias, and the 38,s are radial.....
I've never had to air down my tires. I'm sure there will be a time. But most of my driving is by myself with no compressor. I love the mud though. I always power out never been stuck. I guess I haven't tried hard enough. Those military radials might be something to look into. I'm getting 5 rims for $150 with tires. They are white steelies. How about GVR I have a 93 F250 with 6" susepension. Any problems here? Looks like I touched on a sensitive subject. Thanks for all the input.
id would sell mine for a lot cheaper and they are chrome, but shipping would probulay be horrible, but if you live around tx we could meet, if you are wanting new wheels, and want them cheap, try discount tire.com that is where i am buying mine.seventy five$ for alum 16x8, and 56$ for black steel. i was going to buy the h1 tires, but i did not really want to run a 36 inch tire. from what i read they are pretty decent tires. i think there is a thread in the 4x4 column, on this site...just wrote a day or two ago. good luck, almost everywhere i looked, they eithet could not get or were just way to high, almost 800 bucks for 4 bfg all terrains......were 16,s were just 500 bucks. my2 cents good luck..
man i saw your truck on profile, those wheels look friggin sweet, are you needing spare wheels, if you are then the 16.5 would be ok, but i like those wheels alot, the truck looks like you have spent some time on it. did you build or buy..and solid front axle or ttb??
Yeah I love the wheels. I bought the truck with basically just a cheap 6" lift. I put the rims 3" body. Traction bars lights, and a lot of other doodads. I've been looking for an axle. I would love to do the swap but I really don't have the money right now. Having to by tires and a new axle would kill me. Anyways I got those rims for $400 16x8's brand new. I got them because they have a 3.75" offset so I don't rub my tires on the leafs. But They are balding my tires way to fast cause I run a 13.5" wide tire right now. They bald right in the middle. So I'm really just looking for any 10" rim reasonably priced. I would love to go up to a 17" just to get the tire sizes. 16" is really limited these days. But I found these second hand thought I would paint em black and they would look alright. Sell the ones I have. I would love to spend under $200 for some used ones. But over here in Norcal no one is running the 8x 6.5 bolt pattern. I love the superduty but it has taken over in our area. Every 8 lug rim is 170mm.
three inch, body lift it it is did you use the park brake adaptor thing, i did not know wat is was for,or how to put on, if you did how or what is it for?????????/
park brake adaptor? I don't think I got anything like that. I did it myself. Steering shaft extension? That's about it. I got a 3" performance accessories. I love it. It made everything so much easier to get to. I changed my clutch and put in a new transfer case with ease. So much more room.
yea the room because of the body lift is amazing, that is the main reason i got one, but i dont know what the park brake thing is, on the parts list it said it but i could find it in the instructions, i did not use a steering ext, it did not come with one, anyways, it seems to work, so i suppose keep it as is, any ways, there are a ton of new superduty wheels out there, but not many,8x6.5. oh and it might be better to find used 16" tires, it seems that these rich superduty guys, are always taking of good tires off and putting bigger or better tires on...that is usually what i do, just because good used 16" tires are readilly available down here, especially in bigger cities....
More room underneath is the main reason I'm putting a 3" on mine... I don't need any additional suspension performance.
My Trailmaster kit didn't come with any steering extension or even mention it; it looks like the shaft has a slip-joint on it anyway. Would the fact the mine's 2WD make a diff on the steering shaft?
