They just had it on WDIV here in Detroit. Ford has issued a rule that no imports will be allowed to park in their parking lots at Dearborn Assembly. Only people with special permits will be allowed to park their imports there. Channel 4 said it was met with thunderous applause by the workers there. One guy, though, who works there, said it wasn't fair. that the only car he can afford is an import. You mean, you work at Ford, make good money and you can't afford to buy what your company makes? Rediculous.
why not just make it simply if you aren't driving a Ford you'd better either be walking or on 2 wheels. But, it is a start at getting those who's livelyhood depends upon building Fords should be buying them too. I like it!
the gm assembly plant in linden nj has had a gm only lot, next to the employee entrance door, for over 20 years. then the next closest lot is designated usa brands only, with the import lot 1/2 mile away. within 2 months of startup, the lot went from almost empty to almost full. and the other lot went from a mixed bag to a few fords. the import lot is still there, but has been empty for around 10 years.
What do they consider an import? Can I park a Tacoma that was made in California there? Can I park a Ford or GM car that was actually a rebranded import?
What about old Fords? What good does it do Ford if I go out right now and buy an 1976 Mustang II? Ford will see none of that money. It won't help Ford's bottom line one bit. But I can still park in the 'priviledged' lot?
What they really want is that only cars built at that plant, with a build date after today to park in that lot. Those are the only cars that will keep anyone in a job there.
