I think this is ridiculous, what about the guy who is just barely getting by and can't afford to buy a ford vehicle. I understand where ford is coming from, and believe me I love fords, but I think they are taking this a little to far.
This may be hard to believe but everyone who works at ford doesn't make a 6 figure income. I doubt that all the ford executives own ford vehicles, but I bet they don't have to park across the street and walk to their office.
If you work in the factory at ford and can't afford to drive a ford(no one said the ford vehicle had to be new, just had to be ford) you need to get your priorities straight!!! I have owned and payed for by myself a ford vehicle of some type since high school when I was making minimum wage, not making a whole heck of lot more than that now,but the bills are paid, and that's what counts!!
It's a free country on both sides. If you want to run your company that way, fine. If you want to drive something other than what you build, that's fine, too.
Where I see this falling apart is if they have a handicapped worker who drives a non-Ford....
All that being said, with 1/4 of their jobs going away in the next few years, maybe the lot thing is their way of making it easier to decide who goes!
I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Would the Mazda PU be able to park their though since all it is a Ford Ranger? If it the companies property they can make their own parking rules as they please except for handicap parking. Find it hard to believe though that working for Ford that you aren't going to be able to get the best deal on a new car there over a rival company. However if it is a used car then you are looking for the best deal or you might have gotten it from a friend or a relative at a price too good to pass up. Don't see where the brand makes a differance when it is a used vehicle in the parking lot though. True if I didn't have a Ford then I would probably be rather unhappy about parking far away, but would do so until I was able to come up with something different.
Somebody mentioned that not all Ford executives are not driving a Ford product. I wasnt born yesterday. Hey there driving Fords. You dont bite off the hand that feeds you. Makes sense if you work for Ford you drive a Ford. Autoworkers pay is better then most average jobs by a long shot. No excuse for notdriving a Ford. Hey there is some pride in what your building. You show it with the vehicle you are driving.
Everyone is making great points here, but I don't think I am getting my point through clearly. I am just trying to say everyone has the right to choose what they drive and if they drive something other than a ford I don't think they should be punished. If I worked at ford I would definatley be driving something that I helped make. I am just trying to put things into perspective here.
I think Ford has the right idea, workers should support their own company by buying it's products. It's not whether it's assembled in Canada or not since it's the buying of your own products that will help the company. It's not a buy american situation since we all know many "imports" are made here. I work for Boeing and as you know we are the only American company that builds large passenger jets 100 seat and larger. We know not everyone can insist that they fly Boeing but when many of us do we thank the airline for buying our planes and do all we can to support our products. When I'm able to do ask for one of our planes and fly carriers who buy ours like Southwest. I write the airlines and tell them thanks all the time. We need to help where we can so we can be stronger.
I don't think everybody understands the issue either. Nobody is being punished, its just that if you drive a Ford or Ford product you get to park in the closest lot, kind of like employee of the month getting the front row parking spot. There's always some mamby pamby bleading heart that takes offense to everything. And there will always be some joker that's going to drive a Chevy to the Ford assembly plant, just waiting for someone to say something so he can be easily offended and make a big deal out of it. This is something the majority of the employees are in favor of...majority rules as the saying goes. Heck, I say if they don't drive a Ford, fire 'em!
Ha Ha DarkWolf I agree...way before when I was a youngester and sold cars, if we didn't drive a ford we had to park where the car could not be seen like down the street.
