Ideally if every plant employee bought a finished Ford product from that plant they work at it probably would be a plus for the company. But, If I worked at Ford I sure wouldn't be spending any money on a car or anything else right now. There appears to be no job security anywhere. Maybe a better plan would be to include a bonus coupon, worth say 10% of the gross paycheck, with each pay check good towards the purchase of a Ford vehical. Get enough coupons, then you can get a darn cheap car deal. And if you get layed off, you could sell your coupons to others still collecting them.
Still, I like the idea of requiring Ford only vehicals on company property. Yeah, GMarquis, Linc. should get a pass, but the others NO. I like the parking idea.
Just as I like the idea of the Ford Co. execs taking off their pin stripe suit jackets, rolling up those $200 shirt sleeves and loosening their silk ties and unbuttoning the top button, with a few hairs out of place, and at least appearing to be working on solving Ford's problems whenever in a photo op shoot or in front of the floor line workers. Appearance is everything when trying to change attitudes.
Latest I read on this is this. Only Ford products will be allowed. So, I guess that means Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Mazda, etc. Even GM and Chryslers have to park in the lots across Miller Rd and walk. In other words, they have to walk another few hundred feet, instead of parking closer to the plant. An inconvenience to say the least but, it's not like they have to park it miles away. And the decision was made by the plant manager not, by the company. It was announced at a town forum like gathering with plant and union officials present and workers and was met with a huge ovation. Some aren't happy about it. One worker says he buys Chryslers because he gets a better deal and this is not fair to him. Others say that management has no right to tell them how to spend their money on which vehicle they buy. Like another poster said, why not give these guys some incentive to buy the products they build. In these times, getting your employees to buy the product is very important. You need all the help you can get to make some money.

LMAO, they have two incentives 1) their flippin job and 2) the X-plan.
If an employee building Fords wants to drive something else, he can park the vehicle out back where no one will see it.

Working there. Wouldn't someone actually get the A-plan?
Yea. There's the A-plan. If memory serves me correct, it takes off ~2k for every ~10k. I'm not sure of the percentage, but I think it adds up to being something like that.
I think its the right thing to do. If you want to work at Ford, you should drive a Ford product. If you work there and don't think enough of them to drive one, I'd be worried about your commitment to quality. I don't want to buy a vehicle that the guy building it dosn't think enough about it to drive one too. Enough said.
If they (union workers) want to keep their jobs, the UAW should encourage them to purchase the manufacturer that they work for. I find it kind of odd that they wouldn't take pride in the product they help assemble.
It's not like the plant got rid of the other lot, the non-Ford products still have a space and relatively close to the plant.
I worked for Avis and for a time, we rented almost exclusively GM products nationally with the notable exception of Detroit, where we had Ford products as well. We had too, the folks going to a Ford facility couldn't drive anything else. Nor should they.

Personally, I think it's a very stupid idea!
People should be able to buy and drive what they want. If Ford wants it's employees to buy and drive Fords, then they need to build cars and trucks that people want, at a price they can afford. Think about it... Ford employees get pretty good deals on Ford products. Those that want them, buy them. Those that don't, buy something else.
Also, Ford Motor Company owns Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin... Are those brands okay to park in the employee lot? Does anyone else see the irony?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Ford truck, but I also drive a Toyota Camry.
Most of the Toyota's and Honda's sold in the US are made in the US... made in America, by Americans (okay, mostly Americans?? As far as I'm concerned, they are American Made.
