I searched but couldn't find my answer. I remember not too long ago reading a post about vehicle weight limits for exhaust mods. Something like as long as it was 8800 and over you could eliminate the muffler and the cat, or something like that? Just trying to make sense of what that might be before I put an exhaust on.
How do I go about checking local emission laws in my area? Can I do it online, or do I need to call DMV?
My plan Is to run a 3" downpipe, delete the cat, and run a high flow muffler 4" out.
I want the lower EGTs and a little better mileage, but I also want a beefy sound throughout the torque curve.

Check out your highway patrol or department of transportation. They should be able to tell you or point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
I live in northern Utah and one day me and my 15yr old son was wasting time and fuel and stoped in at a muffler shop and just for fun asked how much to do the exhaust on my stroker (3" dp,4" pipe all the way back) he told me $1000.00. He said if the truck came stock with a cat. he had to put one back on (it's the law). so I said goodby.
Might be mistaken, but I think the cat issue is federal; it can't be removed or disabled unless it is replaced with another cat. Given your current domicile, I'd yank the critter & bolt up your own system courtesy of Tymar or DPPI (3"-4" DP, 4" pipe).
Hay DaBigTow my stroker has aready has the cat. and the muff. gone. I have plans on upgrading to a 4" set up when the weather warms up and dries up. I have been looking and I think I'm going with Tymar intake and exhaust. thanks for the good words. Later.
