is your truck mass air (one giant intake tube) or speed density (2 tubes)? if the latter, the gains you get will be minimal. i have the K&N on my 89. not a huge difference, but i like the tone it gives and picked it up pretty cheap so i kept it anyway. mass air systems can actually sense the extra air and re-calibrate accordingly to get you the optimum results. still, no intake is a miracle machine.

quickest way to pick up the oomph after getting bigger tires is changing the axle gearing. may seem expensive, but you'd have to do a LOT of engine work to get the same result!!

My truck does not have a mass airflow sensor, it has the two seperate tubes going into the TB.

nothing wrong with that as long as your intake doesn't move the location of the MAF relative to the TB.

I don't see how unless by moving the sensor, noise is introduced into the system from something like the fan. The air entering the engine is going to be the same no matter where in the intake air stream it is measured.

This is funny, I live in North Branch just west of you. My truck is 95 version of yours. I did notice a little more pick up with the KN kit but not a lot. Maybe I will see you on the road. I have to post pics with my 265-75-15 Nokians on, the truck looks a lot better and they are actually the stock size they came with.

The best way to get that power back is to re-gear the truck for those tires. Going from stock to 35's is a BIG jump. Unless you invest serious time & effort into increasing engine performance, it's the only way you're going to get the truck back into the power band.
