I am looking at putting a K & N intake on my 94 Bronco with a 302. They have two different models: one for "speed density" and one for "mass air". I have no idea which I have.
I have a '94 with a 5.8 and just got the FIPK system from K&N, it was speed density. Most likely you have two intake hoses coming from the throttle body to the filter box, if these hoses go down in one peice with nothing between them, it is speed density, Just two hoses continuous all the way to the filter box, kinda hard to explain, I have a picture of mine I will see if I can post it, its speed density!! Hope you can make it out
But seriously What 94 bronco is saying is correct. Two complete hoses from the airbox is speed density, one big fat one that splits into two with a aluminum piece in the middle is mass air.
BTW 94Bronco58, do you ever recall seeing a white bronco crusing Temecula with fender flares, tinted windows and a 4" lift running around about 4 months ago?
Amazingly I do, why was it cruisin' four months ago, why not four ours ago, mine was!! Do you live in temecula?? I am going to give this picture thing one more shot....??
From what I have read on this forum it seems like Mass Air is the way to go espcially if you plan on doing mods. Proficientperformance.com has a Ford setup that goes for 720$. The conversion mostly consists of a new computer/computer chip, intake hose from the air filter box to the throttle body, and new wiring to work with your MAP sensor and fuel injectors.

94bronco, I used to work in Temecula up until a few months ago. Drove my Bronc just about every day except when the rear axle went south the last time. Still looking for a job down there. I truly enjoyed the city I still want to move down there but it all depends on if I can find a good job there or not.
Ok back to the post to give a quick answer to the Mass air vs. speed density whats better and why boils down to Mass Air because it's more efficent, and handles high performance mods with little to no modification.
hey 94 bronco i just got the same exact air filter made by k&n for my 87 bronco how much you pay for your's and can you tell the difference did yours come with just the air filter and brackets to
from the engine it starts with two hoses for about 10 or 12 inches, then merges into one really big fat tube across to the air cleaner. Just before the air cleaner is an electronic thing in the big fat tube.
it does not look like the photo the other fellow posted.
