LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-01 AT 04:47 PM (EST)[p]I have a FE 390 to swap into my 77 F-150 4x4 C-6 tranny. I have the 390 and a 2wd C-6 to bolt it to. Someone told me that all I have to do is change out the back part of the 2wd tranny with the back part off the 4wd and the whole thing will bolt right in with the engine mounts, length and everything. Is this true...any sugestions?

thanx
All depends on what was in the truck before, being a 77 I don't believe they came with the FE series of engines. So motor mounts, rad, accessories, tranny mount, crossmember, exhaust, to name a few will have to be changed/relocated.
Someone correct me if I made any mistakes
The output shaft will have to be swapped also. On the 4wd output shaft there is usually a snap ring that keeps it in. To get the snap ring off, you must pull most of the C6 guts out. The 2wd version that has the ball bearing on the output shaft is held in by the bearing and extension housing, so it is a breeze to pull--it can come out with the extension housing.
The output shaft is shorter on a 4x4 C6, otherwise they're the same. You might be better off getting a 4x4 C6 and trading it out.
Dave,
79 F-150 4x4, 390 w/C6, Edelbrock carb, 33X12.50 never will be finished.
