400 to 390 help

400 to 390 help
I have a 73 f250 2wd crew cab and I just rebuilt the 390 in it . I wanted 4wd but it costed too much to change over, so I just bought a 79 f250 4x4 crew cab . The 79 has a 400 motor , I was wondering if my 390 will bolt up to the c6 in the 79? The 390 is bolted up in the 73 to a c6 but that c6 is BLOWN up so I can't swap it out . Besides I have had that c6 out of the 73 rebuilt 4 times in in 1 year and buy 3 different tranny shops. It has made me MAD

The 390 will not bolt right up to anything that your 400 had including the tranny. The 460 is a much easier swap. There is tons of info on this site about making the 390/400 swap. You'll have to search back a few months.

I dont know how many miles are on the 400 and I heard the 390 has more torque. Plus the 390 I have has only 2500 miles on it. I have been getting about 17 mpg with it running msd 6a and blaster coil . I also heard the 400 is a slug.
