The Dodge Super Bee Returns

The Dodge Super Bee Returns
My son and I were at the NAIAS yesterday and in the Dodge section, on display was a Charger with a Super Bee Pkg on it. Looked real good, too. It was yellow, with a flat black hood and large scoop that said 6.0 Hemi on it. On the rear quarter panels was the black striping with the Super Bee logo similar to that of the 1970 Super Bee. My son asked a Dodge rep. if it was coming out and she said yes, this coming fall. Saw the Challenger also and that looked better than the pictures I've seen. Believe me, there were some big crowds surrounding that one. Also, a Charger Daytona was on display. My son said he's seen those at a local Dodge dealer before but, that was the first one I'd seen. It was bright red with black striping. I sure like these retro looking muscle cars coming back. Return with us now, to those thrilling days of yesteryear.

I'm not a fan of the new Chargers. It's not the car, they look like a decent car, and at least its a return to RWD. It's the use of the name that bothers me. Names like Charger, Challenger, Barracuda, Fairlane, Galaxie, Chevelle, Impala, etc. are parts of automotive history, and unless new cars with these names represent their older siblings, which the Charger and Impala don't, then the plans should be scrapped. Whereas this new Challenger, if it makes it to production, seems to fairly represent its predecesor.

Owning a 69 Super Bee was always a dream of mine that never come true. Maybe some day. I did how ever get my hands on a 66 GTO. Wish I still had it.
On a side note, I think it is good the car makers are taking a look at the old cars and trying to bring back the days when a Muscle Car was King. Ford with the Mustang, Chev with the concept truck of the 50's, Dodge in the 90's with the fenders that reflected the 50's again. I have not seen or heard of the Super Bee package, but when it comes to the ow-hum look of new cars, classic style can not be replaced or written off. IMO, there is not a single new car design out there I like.

i had a 1970 super bird hemi.and to me the only thing dcx iz doing is trying a big marketing gig on they old names they purchased with crysler company. bad thing is any thing built german style now is weak and over designed.and don't stand up up in the long term running. and are very costly to repair after the warrenty is over. 42 years fixing german cars and trucks i had enough.
i'm not against them. just they no longer build what they made thier names on, great built long time running cars. how many older dcx cars and trucks do you see compaired to ford and gm on the roads? that kind of tells the story.

I bought mine in 1978, a 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T, it now has 41K miles on it. Also have a 1969 SS396 El Camino and a 2001 Camaro SS with just over 400 miles on it.
Don't lament the fact that you didn't buy certain cars in the past. I believe there are a lot of newer cars that you can pick up today as simply used cars that will be collectable in the future. For example:
The 1987-up Fox bodied Mustang 5.0's (especially the LX)
Later Mustang GT's (try for the 5 speed and convertibles)
The Mach 1's
Any Cobra
Any 4th gen Camaro SS, Trans Am, or Firehawk
Any C5 or C6 Corvette
Any Viper ($$$$$ though)
So, buy one now in the best original condition, with the lowest mileage, you can afford, take good care of it, enjoy it, and as time rolls on you won't have to say, Gee, back in '06 I could have bought a 2003 Mach 1 for only $15K!
