I did mine with a 4 inch piece of exhaust pipe between the stock intake and the filter.

I did the same thing by notching a small section out for the filter to seat in.

Should I be concerned if the whooshing sound has gone away? My turbo sounds fine.

The only times it'll be most heard is when you're on the pedal and the transmission is in between gears,otherwise everything should be performing A-okay

Yeah, man. I used to hear it much louder when shifting than I do now. In fact it really isn't audible anymore. But the turbo still sounds fine.

Have you upgraded your exhaust system and/or downpipe as I could see the whooshing reduced if those have been upgraded as the pressurized air may be less when entering the engine possibly,that's just a thought or the filter needs replacing.

good point about the filter ... how often would you bother changing it? It's looking a little gray these days, but I wouldn't say it looks filthy either... probably been running it for 20k miles... it's the 6637
