ways to reduce cab noise ??

I know I'm going to get abuse for this but here it goes, I have a 2000 F350 7.3L PSD CC SB,, Is there anything I can do to reduce engine noise in the cab, any soundproofing materials / techniques out there ?? I've never rode in one with a 6.0 , are they alot quieter in the cab ?? Just curious, not considering buying one due to thier problems, waiting for the 6.4 after its been out for a year or 2 .. Thanks

I say the 6.0 cab noise is just about half of the 7.3 PSD IMO.

You could line the entire cab with Fat Mat off of ebay, same as Dynomat but much cheaper. You are looking at a lot of work if you are going to line the cab though. not hard just time consuming. I have thought about lining mine as well, would take about 140 sq. ft. to do all of it. I was going to put about 3 layers up front and a single layer on the door, back of cab, and floor. I would recommend doing it when it is warm out cuz it will take a while.

Ford makes a pair of Excursion cab sound insulators that mount under the dash. There is an article about these over on TDS.

You can order them from a Ford dealer or one of the Ford sites here, like

My old boss had a V10 and after we installed a set of 3'' flowmaster mufflers we could not hear each other when talking over the hum of the motor. We gutted the truck out one day and installed 2 layers of rubber carpet pad on the floor and up behind the dash as best we could. It really worked well. If you go to a good carpet dealer they may even give you enough scrap for very little $$. We build a lot of homes so we got ours for free. I think the dynamat is quite expensive so I wil be doing the rubber pad to mine as well. Hope that helps.

I filled my hood with insulating foam and plan to do the fenders after everything is installed. BE CAREFUL WITH EXPANDING FOAM. We bed linered the insides of the doors and they are getting carpet pad behind he door panels. I am putting sound deadener mat in the roof and the floor... The 2002 has a mat on the outside of the fire wall also. So I added that. I am foaming all of the pillars and the roof cross members. I will let you know how it goes, but I have never had the truck to drive so as for difference??? I won’t be much help. If you search for posts by my name you will get another thread about the same thing including the "Blue" CPS and the CCV mod (I think that’s what they call it) I will get some more pics of the inside soon and put them in the gallery.<O</O
