Transmission is the same, only reverse, no forward. The light bulbs were apparently a different issue. Suddenly two burned out, one right after the other - strange. I was very careful not to touch the glass - maybe just too many hours. I will try the electrical cleaner on the wire harness connectors tomorrow and see what that brings.
I wonder about the PCM. If you know someone with a psd with auto you could do a swap to see what happens. With a little practice you can R&R the pcm in 10 minutes.
I know it controls shift points but not sure if it could be causing you're problems.
PCM is in the cab under the E-brake. The wires for it are on the firewall under the brake master cylinder. You have to remove the bolt (10 mm wrench) and pull the plug off then remove 2 bolts(7mm wrench) from the bracket in the cab that hold the pcm in place. There is a picture at DP Tuners web site. Go to "Order Form" and click on pcm code location. You might want to call Jody at DP and ask him if that could cause your problems. He is the expert with pcm's and may have some ideas.

This took me to Superchips.com, I did not see order form. Is this the correct site? What is DP?
Just type it in without the spaces and dont forget the dash
Got it. Thanks. I'm getting a little gun shy here before doing too much more - don't want to create more damage. I'll give Jody a call. Thanks again for your help.

Update:
Tried to call Jody, Diane said to call Dennis at ITP, Dennis called Brian,(a transmission specialist in AR) Dennis called me back to tell me Brian said the problem is the forward clutch is worn out - replace transmission. Apparently this is quite common at 100K mi. - I'm at 94K. Tried to contact Brian about rebuilt transmission twice but no return call. Priced rebuilt transmissions from local dealers. NAPA - $3300, available next day: Checker - $1650, available one week(12 mo./12K mi. warrantee); Ford - $1900, available next day(36 mo./36K mi. warrantee) I bought the Ford. Installed it myself over the weekend. Everything seems to be working fine. Drives and shifts just like it did with the other transmission. May consider the sonnax or BTS valve body in the future.
Thanks to everyone that helped. I would have been at the mercy of the repair shops without all the helpful information available on this sight.
