Hello all,

2002 Expedition, EB 5.4 Triton, 2WD, 4R100 (overhauled about 25K miles back)

After starting the vehicle, The "OD Off" light on the stalk illuminates as soon as I shift into DRIVE, (or any other position), and stays on (not blinking). However, OD is NOT disabled at this point, which is ostensibly correct since the OD button has not been pressed. Pressing the button will disable the OD as expected, and subsequent presses behave normally, switching OD on and off. The light remains on constantly, until I shift back to PARK, where it turns off.

In PARK, the OD light turns on and off with the button as normal.

The light is not blinking and there are no codes.

Possibly a short in the stalk head or steering column?

The wiring harness is chafed where it exits the shift lever. Pull the column shrouds and repair, it will be obvious.

There are three wires in that little harness, the exact symptom depends on which wire shorts to ground first.
