On my '03 / 7.3 with a Banks Big Hoss Module system I recently experienced intermittent stalling while engine is warm and driving under light load, took it to the dealer for diagnostic and this was their summary: checked multiple codes, found after market chip causing engine stall, necessary to remove chip, check OK but found engine to surge, further tests found erratic ICP readings caused by missing retainer in IPR, replaced retainer, Check, OK.
My question: is there a way to test my Banks chip to see if it's faulty (this was a very expensive system and I'd like to make sure it's bad before replacing it, do they even go bad?), or is the 2nd check described (retainer missing on IPR) the real problem and not the chip?
I doubt it was your chip. The problem you describe sound like a IPR problem. The stelaership seems to always blame someone else(the chip) first and their product last.
IPR = Injection Pressure Regulator. It is an "electromagnetic valve to regulate the HP oil pressure on the engine to tailor the injection characteristics of the injectors." Taken from here: http://cw-diesel.com/LuxSite/IPRInfo.htm
It may provide you with some more info about the IPR.
Hey OLie whenever you go to the dealership always remove any HP programs or chips from your truck. Set your truck to factory settings. If your truck is still under warranty, any HP modification on your eng. will void it. With a chip the first code you'll get is a error module code, second code would be your problem. you can't even get a readout on your comp. ID #. Your IPR was probably the problem.
