The OEM Bats in my truck are now 4 yrs old - How much longer can I expect them to last? - So far they appear to be performing fine. Should I get them tested or just plan on replacing them soon?

If you are anywhere you cannot afford to lose the batteries, my personal limit is 4-5 years. Other guys write in that two years is max if installed in ambulances, etc.
Thanks guys, That's what I was figuring - I'm headed to WY in a couple of weeks. I think to be on the safe side I'll buy a pair of bats before I go. We're headed to a fairly remote area up near Gilette.

YUP, you are going to a remote area alright. My batts lasted 4yrs. When you replace them, you will be amazed at the speed at which the motor turns over and fires up. I was having starting troubles and when I replaced mine, it started great. The old bats. were spinning the motor over but just not fast enough to create the heat needed here.
PS. very windy here lately and wind is out of the west 90% of the time so if you can park where the bitter wind won't cool your motor down faster than normal, your truck will thank you for it. Just my .02 Hope you have a good trip.
Jumping in here on this discussion. What batteries do people use to replace the originals? When I needed to replace mine I looked for the maximum cold cranking amps I could find and I found a 1k cranking amps battery in of all places Walmart. They were 58 bucks and so far have been fine. This is the third year and I think they may be fading but still doing the job.
With that said I would like to see other opinions on a replacement before I do get another set. I kind of liked the Interstate's but couldn't find a dealer and I needed them now, at that time.

The Interstate Mega Tron's seem to be the battery of choice.

I had to bookmark this thread 'cause I'm prolly gonna need some new bats in the next 12 months and I'll go for the MegaTrons but how does the cost compare to OEM Motorcrafts?
After spending 14 years in Casper, I found that anywhere in WY is fairly remote ...... but then that's why I spent 14 years there! LOL
Anyone need some rope?
I have about a quarter of a mile of it left 'cause if it wasn't tied down, you'd have to look for it in Nebraska. (Wy. joke, you'd have to be there)

Those Wal-Mart EVERSTART MAXX batteries are what I put in last year about this time and they are working good thus far. I know I've said it before, but until they fail me, I think $58.64/each and 3yr free replacement and 9 year pro-rated warranty is tuff to beat.
9 yr pro rated warranty eh? I may have to check those things out myself, but I have had good luck with advanced batteries. I also don't have to deal with the cold weather down here.
I mean that the cold needs more cold cranking amps, so as I live in the hot climate, I don't need as many, and can therefore get away with a cheaper battery. You're right though, when I lived in pittsburgh I didn't see batteries last any longer than here.

Quantitatively this relationship between the rate a chemical reaction proceeds and its temperature is determined by the Arrhenius equation. Battery life, due to positive grid corrosion, is reduced by 50% for every 18° F (10° C)rise in ambient temperature over 70° F (21.1° C)."
