My Brother has a boat with a 77 302 that runs great but....Something broke on the leg on the boat and so the cable got kinked and is stuck in gear. So its just been sitting for a about 3 months and it will sit until we can get it fixed. my question is should I remove the rotor and just turn it over so that the engine stay's oiled?, will this help?
The best you could do without starting it would be to squirt some oil in each spark plug hole and rotate the engine by hand a few revs with the plugs out. This will keep the rings and walls oiled up. As for the bearings, and lifters, you could get a oil pump pre-lube shaft that you chuck up to your drill motor and spins the oil pump drive shaft. You will need to remove the distributor to do this, but it is better than burnin out your starter motor and wearing down your batery. Your drill motor should be at least a 3/8 capacity and have reverse (counter-clockwise rotation) for a 302.
I would really like to run the engine, but turning it over till the oil pressure came up would be good. It would be OK to do it with a jumper cable if needed.
There is no way to get the prop out of gear? Can you remove the cable, and manually shift it to neutral?

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
Will just spinning the engine with the starter be fast enough to splash oil on pistons to get the bores oiled? I think he should still at least squirt some oil down the plug holes first.
