Thank ya....Thank ya...Thank ya!!!! Now I really feel like an idiot cause I was looking way Way WAY to high up...and need to have another look...dont' recall seeing anything like that...but it's gotta be there...
Now what I'm curious about is why I couldn't find that in the advanced search feature. More of a learning curve on this site than anticipated....
copper,
thanks for the pic....never seen a heat cooked 3L modulator....no wonder they die such a quick death with no heat shield....not Ford Tough design....neoprene diaphram must turn to crumbling chunks with 1100d cat so close...
i thought the 4L oil filter got hot with the header pipe wrapped around it after a long hard hill pull....one only reachs up there once with bare arm skin to change oil when exhaust pipes are still hot.....sizzling blackened skin and screams that can be heard blocks away....
I was thinking about making a homemade heat shield for the 3.0L. Probably not terribly hard, considering the heat shield on the 4.0L is really simple. But you're right, the 3.0L modulator is really well cooked.
Well Copper I checked the mileage on the trans and it is about 95000 on it. I had a Tranny shop take a look at it yesterday, they pull the pan and fond metal shavings in it, the govner was stuck and the 1-2 shift body not working right, and it was wanting to start out in 2nd gear. Rebuild cost $1785. Afther he drained it and fushed out some of the metal and put in fluild, it was working good on the way home, the guy at the shop said that it may last a day or it may go 6 months, who knows.
Another good solution, is if your converter is shot and needs replacement, you should change its location. As a general rule, you want to keep it as close to the engine as possible, but you also want to keep the heat of the modulator. It is possible to do, but you would want this done by a good muffler shop.
